elmeg ICT - Voice over IP
Integration of Internet telephony with the VoIP-VPN Gateway module

The next major revolution in the telecommunications sector is on the horizon - Voice over IP. The major advantage and enormous potential of this technology lies in the fact that you in principle only pay for your Internet service (via DSL or modem), while conducting long-distance calls over the Internet anywhere in the world at no extra charge.

The new universal module, the "VoIP-VPN Gateway", combines VoIP based on SIP standard, secure data transfer via VPN, all router functions and classic telecommunications (including system telephony) smoothly with one another and breaks out of the boundaries placed on systems up to now:
  • VoIP integration by connecting any IP telephones with SIP standard in the local network
  • VoIP integration by connecting ISDN and analog telephones via the PABX system and the Gateway module to take advantage of IP telephony from any extension
  • VoVPN: Integration of any external IP telephones with SIP standard as an external extension (e.g. for secure connections from/to field reps)
  • SIP login with up to 10 SIP providers
  • SIP-LCR / SIP-ASR: Any SIP provider can be incorporated into the LCR/ARS function of the elmeg ICT PABX system
  • Individual expansion of the Gateway module using 1 or 2 "4 DSP" or "8 DSP" submodules for up to 16 simultaneous VoIP voice connections
  • Complete router functionality with DHCP, firewall, automatic selection of provider, IPSec, IP masquerading/NAT, DNS proxy/server, LAN-TAPI/LAN-CAPI, RAS server and call-back
Of course the Gateway module can also be used in any other ICT family systems that may be already installed, once again demonstrating how future oriented elmeg system architecture really is.

Application example 1: Voice over IP for integrated communication in corporate networks
New telephone lines are a thing of the past: You now only need one LAN port for any new additional workstations with the VoIP-VPN Gateway module. The new VoIP system telephone elmeg IP-S290 and elmeg IP-S400 can be simply integrated into your LAN and can then be used for internal and external calls, just like any other extension. Not enough plugs in the office – no problem with the elmeg IP-S400; it can also be supplied via PoE, doing away with separate power supply via a power supply unit.

"Ready to phone!“ is elmeg's flexible and low-cost solution for all types of PCs – just plug in a headset and transform any PC into an IP telephone; make calls directly from Outlook, with integrated data and voice communication and access to central database inventories.

Application example 2: VPN and Voice over VPN – Incorporate external locations into the LAN
Thanks to its expansive range of performance features, the Gateway module can be employed as a router and central interface for all types of network connections. Field reps can hook up directly to their home office LANs via a secure VPN connection over the Internet to transfer data – over the Internet it doesn't matter if your are 2 or 2000 km away from the office.

The Gateway module can also set up a VoVPN connection for IP telephones, or soft clients, making call re-routing, transferring, three-party conference calls, etc. possible with full integration into the PABX system. If you have a corresponding router or the appropriate PABX system installed at an external home office, even "normal" ISDN and analog telephones can utilize Voice over IP and VoVPN.

Application example 3: Voice over IP for external calls for reducing your phone bills
When you register with an SIP provider you can use your Internet access directly for Voice over IP: Any arbitrary IP telephones or PC-based soft clients can make calls via the Internet link to the provider and the provider converts the data into ISDN telephony, making it possible to set up connections to any phone. You then receive an additional telephone number from your SIP provider that forwards incoming calls from the fixed-lines network directly to your Internet link.

Sine most calls will then be set up via the Internet, you can reduce your phone bills to the actual costs for your Internet hook-up, i. e. practically nothing with a set flat rate.
