Wireless ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ routers with support for IPSec and certificates

The bintec X2301w and X2302w are fully equipped, flexible IP routers with an integrated ADSL modem, a wireless interface and a 4-port switch. With ADSL2 you can attain download rates of up to 12 Mbps. With ADSL2+ evenup to 24 Mbps. The upload rate for both routers is up to 12 Mbps.

Both devices combine the features of the bintec X2301/X2302 ADSL routers with WLAN capability and allow a broad range of application for wired and wireless access. The wireless interface uses the 802.11g (max. 54 Mbps) standard to transmit data and is compatible with the slower 802.11b variant in the same frequency range (max. 11 Mbps). The bintec X2301w and bintec X2302w are both equipped with an integrated ADSL modem according to Annex-A or Annex-B. With support for IPSec (2 active tunnels from the factory), the routers are able to establish secure VPN connections. 3DES or AES is used for encryption, authentication can be provided with preshared keys or certificates. In addition, the routers offer IPSec data compression (IPComp) and support NAT-Traversal.
The routers are able to work with a Radius server and are equipped to execute not only PPP authentication, but login and IPSec partner authentication as well.

To find partners using dynamic IP addresses, the routers support the DynDNS function. Seven providers are already pre-selected. Thanks to the implementation of five protocols, however, the routers are compatible with all the leading European DynDNS providers. Instead of working with packet filtering only, the routers in the bintec X230x family are also equipped with a full-fledged stateful inspection firewall (SIF), in which more than 70 services are already pre-configured. For optimum security, the routers also have a Content Filter*, which reliably screens out undesired web contents and does not depend solely on URLs.

These routers operate not only as PPPoE clients, but as PPPoE servers as well. This makes it possible to assign different privileges to individual users in the network. Combined with the scheduling function, it is also possible to individually stipulate the times at which different users are permitted access to the Internet. The VLAN function – another innovation in this router class – distributes users into virtual sub-networks, thus limiting broadcast domains and increasing network security yet again.

* Content Filtering is subject to payment and is available as a 30-day trial version.
