NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications (FEC) are now offering the access point bintec W1002n in combination with special dual polarization antennas in a solution designed for the professional setup of high-performance WLAN bridges. During the application of the bintec W1002n, two separate data streams are transferred, which permits the optimum exploitation of the benefits offered by the new IEEE 802.11n technology. Compared to the previously applied technology, the gross data rates are increased from 54 Mbps to up to 300 Mbps. In combination with the new dual polarization antenna, the WLAN access point offers real net data rates of 75 Mbps over distances of up to 1 km when operated in the bridge mode.
As one of the first devices of its class, the bintec W1002n for the first time supports the 5.8 GHz frequency range in addition to the 2.4 and 5 GHZ frequency ranges. In the 5.8 GHz range, the operation with a transmission capacity of up to 4 watts (EiRP) is admissible.
As a further innovation for devices of this category, the bintec W1002n also supports IPSec tunneling in addition to the standard encryption technologies. The high-performance, hardware-based encryption permits the setup of IPSec tunnels without performance limitations.
The new high-performance bridge links offers a significant performance increase in comparison to bridge links implemented with the conventional WLAN technology. For many applications, the new technology is also a good alternative to existing, more cost-intensive technologies, such as laser links.
Faster Focused Transmission
The 5 GHz dual polarization antenna consists of two independent antenna segments, which are polarized orthogonally to each other and, thus, allow a faster and focused data transmission. In addition, the bridge link calculator of Funkwerk supports the designing of line-of-sight radio links and provides an overview of the ranges and data rates to be attained. The bridge link calculator for 802.11n products can be downloaded from the FEC homepage under the antenna product sector.
Two bintec W1002n devices and two dual polarization antennas are required for the setup of high-performance bridge links. The complete WLAN bridge solution can be purchased at a recommended retail net price of Euro 1396.
