New software release 7.2 for IP access products from Funkwerk Enterprise Communications
NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH, a Funkwerk AG company, introduces its new software release 7.2. Besides offering advanced quality of service (QoS) functionalities for bintec branded products, the new software also supports switch-port separation, HTML wizard-based configuration options for the stateful inspection firewall and PKCS#12 and SNMPv3 support. The software can now (mid September) be downloaded free of charge over the Internet in the Download section at www.funkwerk-ec.com.

Optimised voice over IP quality
The improved QoS support plays a central role in improving the quality of IP telephony. This is accomplished by reserving bandwidth for received data. The bandwidth is set aside specifically for high priority applications such as VoIP. The devices, which are equipped with 4-port switches, also allow the existing switch ports to be separated individually. In this way, a further ASDL modem can be used, for example, to establish an additional WAN connection used preferentially for VoIP data streams.

Enhanced certificate functions
Whereas the use of certificates previously involved the necessary key pairs being generated locally on the participating routers, the PKCS#12 standard now allows you optionally to transmit the key pair together with the certificate. In this way, key pairs can now be generated centrally, alongside the certificates. If these are subsequently distributed to the participating routers using PKSC#12, they can be used for establishing a secure VPN connection.

Improved user friendliness and flexibility
For the first time ever, FEC software solutions allow the stateful inspection firewall to be configured via the HTML wizard. This is especially useful for those with little or no expertise in this field. All necessary settings can be made quickly and easily using pre-configured connection profiles. Afterwards, the desired rules can be separately enabled or disabled in a predefined rule list.
The new software release also supports the latest version of the Standards Simple Network Management Protocol – SNMPv3. This management system information  transport protocol is also suitable for large installations.

Availability
The new software release 7.2 can be downloaded free of charge from the download area for bintec products. All new bintec branded products are being delivered with the new release.
