NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH, a subsidiary of Funkwerk AG, is presenting with the elmeg T444 a compact PABX system which, in addition to voice communication over analogue and digital terminal devices, offers Voice over IP functionality. The telephone system, coming from the specialist in VoIP solutions, is also equipped with an integrated xDSL/ISDN router with firewall. All PCs can be networked over Ethernet and the USB port. In the standard configuration, the elmeg T444 has one internal and one external ISDN S0 connection. Four a/b-Ports serve to connect to analogue telephones and fax machines. An Ethernet port provides a connection for a PC, a switch, or a hub. A module slot allows the system to be expanded if required with two further a/b ports or a POTS module for connection to an analogue exchange line. As well as this, the system is VoIP-ready: a further slot takes the 4 DSP module and enables IP voice data to be transferred to and from the traditional voice network on four simultaneous SIP channels.
The compact PABX system replaces the products elmeg D@VOS-44.dsl and elmeg D@VOS-44.net and combines their functions with the VoIP option in a single unit. In addition to voice communication over the internal ISDN system bus and the four analogue connections, the successor features a built-in xDSL/ISDN router that integrates Internet access for data and Voice over IP using four SIP channels into the telephone system. A firewall protects against attacks from outside and allows the user full control over the nature and content of the incoming and outgoing data streams. Preconfigured filters and a step-by-step Wizard help to get the system connected to the Internet rapidly and securely. A comprehensive log function records connection and online times and data volumes transferred.
Versatile Media Support
The elmeg T444 simplifies the connection of digital terminal devices. For PCs, a 10/100 MBit Ethernet port is built in. One further PC receives a connection to the telephone system over the USB interface, and connects over this to the local network and to the Internet. The advantage for the user: all connected devices, regardless of the medium they use, are networked together, and can share files and printers and access services in the Internet. A comprehensive LAN software package with CAPI and TAPI functions brings telephone and data services such as fax to every PC. Telephone Directory and Charges Manager make for ease of use and provide an overview of telephone costs. The elmeg T444 is configured as before using the elmeg Win-Tools. The Professional Configurator allows all settings to be made conveniently at the PC.
Future-safe with Voice over IP
The elmeg T444 is VoIP-ready, and after connection to an SIP Carrier makes Internet telephony possible with all telephones, laptops and PCs that are connected to the network. The PABX system becomes a full-function VoIP solution with the optional 4 DSP module. The plug-in card provides four parallel, highly-compressed voice channels over the network. This allows ordinary fixed-line network connections to call IP telephones on the local network, and for these in turn to dial numbers outside the network. The application is completely transparent to the user. Whether IP or standard telephone, operation and voice quality are as before. All functions of the elmeg system telephones are fully compatible with the PABX system, and the elmeg IP telephones are of course supported by the T444. To maximise cost savings, an LCR ( = Least Cost Routing) function is integrated which automatically selects the cheapest IP provider at each time of day.
The elmeg T444 is expected to be available from specialist dealers in June 2005.
