NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH, a Funkwerk AG company, will present the bintec R2302w at this year’s CeBIT show. The bintec R2302w is a new device for professional applications that combines the advantages of ADSL and WLAN. It is the first new device to be based on the new bintec hardware platform, which is characterized by high flexibility in its combination of interfaces, functionality and protocols. Thus, individual customer requests can be accommodated, even in small quantities. The high-speed router supports the 802.11g standard (802.11a in preparation) in the WLAN, thus offering a data rate of up to 54 Mbps. To connect with the WAN, the device is equipped with an integrated ADSL modem that already supports ADSL2 and ADSL 2+. In addition, the router features a four-port switch and an ISDN port for backup solutions or remote maintenance. A highlight in the WLAN environment is the Antenna Diversity function, which ensures optimum WLAN reception even under difficult conditions.
IPSec tunnels included
The bintec R2303w with its integrated ADSL modem can be alternatively or additionally connected to an external ADSL or SDSL modem. The extra modems can be operated together with the integrated modem in the load balancing mode. The high-speed router comes complete with five activated IPSec tunnels. Additional tunnels and hardware encryption can be activated after the purchase of a corresponding license.
Security even at the wireless interface
In addition to such security standards as access lists, WEP and WPA, extensive firewall mechanisms and the implemented Virtual Private Network (VPN) ensure secure network access. In addition, the bintec R2302w also supports the IPSec encryption standard with 3DES and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) via the wireless interface, which can additionally be secured by the stateful inspection firewall. Multi SSID functionality (up to 16 SSIDs) makes it possible to allocate different access privileges, such as guest access, to different users. This, in combination with optional content filtering, increases the system’s security significantly yet again. Certificate encryption, which is recommended by the German Office for Security in Information Technology, is also an attractive option. This enables enterprises to prove that they meet the highest standards of security on the basis of the Basel-2 regulations in an audit by a financial institution.
