NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH, a Funkwerk AG company, has just launched a new series of artem brand professional WLAN enterprise products. Extended security mechanisms are what’s really new about the artem W1000, artem W2000 and artem W3000 access points. In addition to the WPA encryption standard, these devices also integrate Multi SSID functionality. Furthermore, all the models, which depending on their product name are equipped with one, two or three radio modules, support the IEEE 802.11a (h), IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g standards. The artem W1000, artem W2000 and artem W3000 access points are scheduled to go on the market starting in February.
Greater flexibility thanks to Multi SSID
Access points regularly send out their SSID (Service Set Identity) to enable users to identify them. At airports, for example, this makes it possible to find the right hotspot for your dial-up. However, since this makes the hotspot visible to every third user, the transmission of this information also involves certain security risks. In this case, the use of the most modern encryption technologies, such as WPA, provides the required security. Thanks to Multi SSID, it is possible to assign several SSIDs to each access point. This has the advantage of being able to allocate different security rights to different users. One user group, for example, might have all the internal rights with access to the central servers, while another is only able to connect to the Internet. The new artem access points offer IEEE 802.11 a, b and g, all the popular standards for wireless data transmission. Since the models can also be operated in bridge mode, a wireless backbone can be set up easily, if required. Standardly equipped with PoE (Power-over-Ethernet), the devices can be supplied with power via the Ethernet cable.
