Funkwerk Enterprise Communications presents the bintec X2250 WLAN router
Impressive combination of professional WLAN and routing technology
NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH, a Funkwerk AG company, has produced a product combining professional WLAN and routing technology for the first time: in the new bintec X2250 WLAN router. The high-speed router supports the 802.11g standard in the WLAN, thus offering a data rate of up to 54 Mbps. With this new offer, Funkwerk Enterprise Communications aims to target particularly smaller enterprises and branch offices that need a powerful, flexible remote access solution. In this way, the router makes it possible to integrate home offices or teleworkers into the corporate network securely via VPN. The bintec X2250 is delievered with five IPSec tunnels included. A license can be bought for the activation of additional tunnels, as needed.

The bintec X2250 can be operated via the two integrated 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet interfaces to ADSL and SDSL lines as well as within a network. The antenna diversity function, which provides for optimal WLAN reception even under difficult conditions, is a real highlight in the WLAN environment.

Security even at the wireless interface
In addition to such security standards as access lists, WEP and WPA, extensive firewall mechanisms and the implemented Virtual Private Network (VPN) ensure secure network access. In addition, the bintec X2250 also supports the IPSec encryption standard with 3DES and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) via the wireless interface, which can also be secured by the stateful inspection firewall. Multi SSID functionality (up to 16 SSIDs) makes it possible to allocate different access privileges, such as guest access, to different users. This, in combination with optional content filtering, increases the system’s security significantly yet again. To identify the individual users, the device supports the 802.1x standard. Certificate encryption, which is recommended by the German Office for Security in Information Technology, is also an attractive option. This enables enterprises to prove that they meet the highest standards of security on the basis of the Basel-2 regulations in an audit by a financial institution.

Key features of the bintec X2250
  • Supports the 802.11g standard
  • Encryption: access lists, WEP, WPA (WPA2 in preparation), 3DES and AES
  • Multi SSID
  • IPSec over WLAN

Availability
The bintec X2250 WLAN router is expected to be available by CeBIT 2005.
