Funkwerk Enterprise Communications presents ADSL routers and WLAN Access Point for Entry Level
NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH, a Funkwerk AG company, recently added entry-level products for secure and wireless network access to their product range for the first time: the bintec X2301 and X2302 ADSL routers and the artem ComPoint Butterfly access point. This now enables smaller companies and home offices in particular to profit from high-quality solutions at attractive value for money. With these new products, Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH has completed its portfolio of secure network access solutions at the lower end of the scale. The bintec X2301 and the bintec X2302 cost EUR 199 each, while the artem ComPoint Butterfly is priced at EUR 169 (prices do not include sales tax).
 The bintec X2301 and X2302
These high-speed routers are ideally suited to such tasks as providing remote access in smaller companies and integrating home offices into corporate networks. The bintec X2301 supports Annex A (ADSL over POTS); the X2302 supports Annex B (ADSL over ISDN - UR2, compatible with Deutsche Telekom AG). The two new additions to the bintec X2300 router family already support ADSL2. This future standard is capable of downloads of up to 12 MBit/s, thus enabling such applications as video-on-demand. The bintec X2301 also supports the standard ADSL2+ which allows downloads of up to 24 MBit/s. There will be available a corresponding firmware update for the bintec X2302 in Q1/2005. A comprehensive range of firewall mechanisms and a Virtual Private Network (VPN) have been implemented to provide secure network access. The bintec X2302 supports IPSec with 3DES and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard)*. It is also possible to use certificate-based encryption, as the German Federal Office for Security in Information Technology recommends. Thus, companies are now in a position to prove highest security standards on the basis of the Basel 2 regulations when checked/reviewed by a financial institution.
 artem ComPoint Butterfly
The artem-brand ComPoint Butterfly WLAN access point is the optimal addition to the two bintec routers to provide employees in smaller companies and SOHOs with wireless network access. The access point supports the IEEE 802.11g standard (54 Mbps) and, thanks to WPA-Enterprise Mode*, it delivers highest security in private as well as business environments. The artem ComPoint Butterfly supports WDS (Wireless Distribution System) for data transmission over long distances. WDS allows wireless point-to-point bridging, point-to-multipoint bridging and repeater functionality. For quick and trouble-free connection to the Local Area Network (LAN), the 10/100BaseT interface supports auto crossover (Auto-MDI/MDI-X). The ComPoint Manager makes it possible to configure the artem ComPoint Butterfly like a high-end device and to implement it in the existing infrastructure.
Attractive value-for-money offer
Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH addresses these new entry-level products primarily to small companies and SOHOs that do not want to do without security, stability and functionality even though their IT budgets may be somewhat more limited. And thanks to the first synergy effects resulting from the merger of artem GmbH and bintec Access Networks GmbH in October of this year, the company is now able to make this interesting value-for-money offer.
Prices and supply sources
The bintec X2301 or X2302 and the Access Point artem ComPoint Butterfly will be available starting in mid-December 2004. The bintec routers cost approx. EUR 199 each, plus sales tax, the artem ComPoint Butterfly is priced at around EUR 169, plus sales tax.
