NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH (FEC), a Funkwerk AG company, now introduces the bintec X2301w (Annex A) and the bintec X2302w (Annex B): two completely new, fully equipped WLAN routers. These flexible routers provide secure wireless Internet access and the secure connection to the corporate network via a VPN (Virtual Private Network). The integrated ADSL modem supports ADSL2 and ADSL 2+, providing download rates of up to 12 or 24 Mbps. The bintec X2301w and X2302w ADSL routers are also equipped with an integrated radio module based on the IEEE 802.11g und 802.11 b WLAN standards. Additionally, both these new routers sport a four-port switch. The bintec X2301w and X2302w are impressive with a wide range of performance features at a very attractive price, a policy FEC has implemented to target small companies and SOHOs who do not want to do without security and functionality despite budget constraints.
High download rates with ADSL2 and ADSL2+
Both newcomers to the bintec router family can also be used with the ADSL2 and ADSL2+ standards. These new standards allow download rate from up to 12 or 24 Mbps, thus accommodating such bandwidth-intensive applications as video-on-demand. The upload rate for ADSL2 and ADSL2+ operates at up to 12 Mbps. The bintec X2301w already supports both standards, a corresponding update has been planned for the bintec X2302w in Q4/2005. Consequently, the routers are perfectly prepared to handle the broadband services of carriers and service providers, particularly since they offer high security and allow the integration of WLAN clients.
Wide range of security functions and optional content filtering
To guarantee security in the WLAN, the bintec X2301w and the bintec X2302w also support the WPA standard in the WPA PSK and WPA Radius versions, in addition to WEP encryption. A stateful inspection firewall (SIF) provides complete protection for the local network against attacks from the Internet. Additionally, the extensive IPSec implementation makes it possible to set up secure VPN tunnels to other company locations and support the use of certificates along with 3DES and AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). To do so, the routers are already equipped with two IPSec tunnel licenses straight from the factory. To best exploit the bandwidth, IPComp can also be used to compress the IPSec data streams.
The NAT-Traversal function makes it possible to set up IPSec VPNs, even when routers with the NAT function activated are involved. The “content filtering” function optionally filters out any undesirable Web contents, whereby it not only analyzes the URL strings, but also classifies the text and image contents of the pages accessed. A convenient HTML Wizard can be used to initially configure the routers.
