Tried and Trusted Comfort, New Technology – System Telephony across TCP/IP
NUREMBERG. Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH, a subsidiary of Funkwerk AG, is extending its range of products with two new system telephones with network connection. The elmeg IP-S290 and elmeg IP-S400 telephones have all the comfort and performance characteristics of a usual telephone, but they communicate with elmeg ICT telephone branch exchanges across TCP/IP.

The extended functions of system telephones are an important component of the communications infrastructure in many companies. An elmeg system telephone will make communication smoother and more comfortable, whether this is because of the sign that a connection is busy, a central branch telephone book or team/regular buttons. Users will now be able to make their system part of the TCP/IP network, while such additional functions have only been offered practically by analogue or digital telephone interfaces so far. A network wall outlet will be sufficient to supply the system telephone and a PC that can be connected to it with data by means of the installed Ethernet interfaces. The VoIP-VPN Gateway Module for ICT systems will take over the control on the part of the telephone branch exchange.

elmeg IP-S290: All Functions for Practice
The elegant IP-S290 has a two-line display with a graphic field, on which the call data and the telephone book entries will be represented. Three dynamic soft keys will allow fast, context-dependent operation. In addition, five function buttons will call up previously programmed functions with the press of a button; light diodes will indicate the status at the same time. A headset socket will provide handsfree telephoning; a speaker and handsfree function with excellent sound quality will be installed as an alternative. The IP system telephone will support all elmeg system functions, such as broker’s calls, conferencing, central branch telephone book and busy signs. It will be particularly convenient for the user that the elmeg IP-S290 is identical to the tried and trusted elmeg CS290 model in structure and operation, apart from the two TCP/IP network ports. Thus, there will be no readjustment period, if the existing telephone environment is upgraded to TCP/IP. The elmeg IP-S290 will be the optimum standard telephone for flexible, network-based office workstations, with its comfort functions.

The elmeg IP-S400: System Telephone for High Demands
Secretarial or assistants’ positions are classic communications hubs in the company and have high demands on the system telephone. The elmeg IP-S400 will offer itself ideally for this area of use, because of the comprehensive basic equipment and the many different options. A seven-line graphic display with illumination will ensure an overview of activities; seven soft keys and a status LED will lead through the Menu quickly to the required function. It will be possible to augment the telephone by up to three elmeg T400 keyboard extensions, in order to connect callers to the correct point quickly with the press of a button. Like the elmeg IP-S290, its smaller brother, the elmeg IP-S400 will be controlled by means of a network interface and the VoIP-VPN Gateway Module. The elmeg IP-S400 will also have two network ports, so that it will be possible to operate the PC and the telephone at the same network socket. Power over Ethernet support will also be implemented.
Comprehensive headset functions, such as the direct control of a DECT headset, will make daily work easier and allow the hands to be free. Speakerphone and hands-free operation in brilliant quality will also belong to the range of functions. The elmeg IP-S400 will also support all system functions of elmeg ICT facilities, like the elmeg IP-S290. It will be possible to program up to ten MSNs (telephone numbers) and a respectively different call signalling for use as a switching headquarters in smaller Companies. The ISDN-based elmeg CS410 is the basic model of the elmeg IP-S400, so that upgraders will be able to make calls with the new IP technology seamlessly and without a learning curve.

Both IP system telephones are expected to be available from specialist dealers in the 3rd quarter of 2005.
