CeBIT 2005 - Products
Funkwerk Enterprise Communications presents the bintec R3400 and bintec R3800 broadband SHDSL routers
SHDSL with up to 9.2 Mbps
NUREMBERG. At this year’s CeBIT, Funkwerk Enterprise Communications GmbH, a Funkwerk AG company, will feature two new bintec-brand SHDSL routers for professional applications in corporate head offices: the bintec R3400 and the bintec R3800. Both devices are based on the new bintec hardware platform, which is characterized by high flexibility in its combination of interfaces, functionality and protocols. As a result, individual customer requests can be accommodated, even in small quantities. The bintec R3400 supports SHDSL on up to four copper wires, thus allowing symmetrical data throughput of up to 4.6 Mbps. With an eight wire line, the bintec R3800 delivers double the bandwidth of up to 9.2 Mbps. The corresponding hardware support (IMA) makes it possible to bundle the two routers together to form one large line and both devices are also equipped with a four-port switch and an ISDN interface for backup solutions or remote maintenance as well as a separate DMZ port designed to operate web servers. With these new SHDSL routers, Funkwerk Enterprise Communications offers enterprises powerful, broadband access to the corporate head office.

SHDSL: A symmetrical, powerful connection
SHDSL (Single-Pair High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line) supports connections that work with the same data rate in both directions, i.e. with the same transmission speed. SHDSL is capable of a data throughput of up to 2.3 Mbps. Since the bintec R3400 and bintec R3800 SHDSL routers can bundle up to four channels, they are capable of a data throughput of up to 9.2 Mbps. Connections with such a high bit rate are particularly well suited for such hosting services as providing web and e-mail servers or virtual workplaces (e.g. Citrix Metaframe, Windows TSE). An SHDSL connection is also predestined for applications that require equal data transmission for up and downstream. Two examples of this are video conferencing and broadband connections to branch locations.

Secure and powerful
Both the bintec R3400 and bintec R3800 routers come complete with five activated IPSec tunnels. Additional tunnels and hardware encryption can be activated after the purchase of a corresponding license. The security concept devised for these devices encompasses a large number of firewall mechanisms, such as the stateful inspection firewall (SIF). Versatile VPN security features provide teleworkers, employees in branch offices and business partners with secured access to the corporate network via encrypted tunnels (IPSec). Powerful Quality-of-Service functions, such as packet classification and prioritizing, bandwidth limits and network overload prevention, enable the optimal exploitation of the existing WAN interface.

Key features of the bintec R3400 and R3800
  • Data throughput: up to 2.31 Mbps
  • IPSec
  • SIF
  • QoS
  • Four-port switch (ports can be controlled individually)
  • Load balancing
  • ISDN backup
  • DMZ port

Availability
The bintec R3400 and the bintec R3800 are scheduled to go on the market in mid-2005.
